Valentines Route 66 Itinerary

Today marks the second day of the second leg of our Route 66 road trip, where we will see mostly desert and mountains. The route we’re planning to take from Victorville is to follow the old alignment of the road, looping away from I-15 through Helendale to the ghost town of Calico near Barstow, and then run parallel to I-40 Ludlow before looping south to Amboy.
This route comes out to a little over 122 miles, but there’s plenty for us to stop and look at along the way, so it’ll probably take all day. If we are feeling brave, and there’s a couple of hours of evening light left by the time we reach Amboy, we might pick up a gallon of water, fill up with gas, charge up our cell phones and strike out across the last 70 miles of desert to Needles.
Have a great Valentines Day! I’ll post again in a couple of days once we’re back in Arizona again.
For my new readers, I’ve listed the Route 66 posts I’ve made so far below.
