Gaming Technorati Favorites
I’ve spent the last couple of weeks thinking about a mutually agreeable way to boost page-rank, both for myself and my blogging readers. While the John Chow (Root of all Evil) Review for a Linkback method collects many links from participants, it’s a very one-sided scheme which certainly benefits the blog running the scheme more than the reviewers who take part. I was lucky enough to get in early, and even then got only a few hundred extra visitors for a couple of days before the buzz died down. I imagine the people sending the 550th review will probably see next to no additional traffic. Much as I love johnchow.com, I stopped reading his ReviewMe posts altogether around batch 20 (sorry John).
That’s all very nice, but what is this all about?
What I’d really like to do is come up with a scheme that is equally beneficial to everyone that takes part. And the more people that join in, the more obvious the exponential benefits will become! I’ve posted before about my disdain of Technorati rankings, though I hadn’t thought about gaming the Technorati Most Favorited Blogs list. Today I found exactly such a scheme posted at doshdosh.com. I think it’s way more evil than John Chow, especially because you all have the chance to get hundreds of links by joining in. Interested?
Currently slashdot has the number 23 spot in the Technorati 100 most Favorited Blogs List by being favourited 344 times. The bottom entries have been favourited barely 100 times! By participating in Maki’s experiment, I’m wondering if, between us, we can occupy that and the next 77 spots in the list, knocking slashdot off entirely?
How can I get one of those top 100 slots?
Just click http://technorati.com/faves/?add=http://blog.azazil.net to add this blog to your technorati favourites. As soon as I notice you’ve added me I’ll return the favour, and favourite your blog. If I haven’t favourited you within a couple of days, feel free to leave a comment or shoot me an email.
To get more favs, leave a favourite my blog link along with your technorati user name in a comment below, and favourite anyone who clicks it (by regularly checking the “favorited by” link from your blog info page at technorati).
For even more favs, click as many of the favourite me links in the comments on this post and the in the other participating blogs listed at the end of this post as your patience will allow. All the people you favourite in this way are participating in the experiment, and will most likely reciprocate by favouriting you too in the following day or two.
What about links though? They’re important too you know!
To get more favs (and some linkbacks), join the DoshDosh scheme, along with the other exchanges I’ve listed at the end of this post, and follow the instructions at each blog on how to participate. Each of the blogs I’ve listed will exchange favourites with you, at the very least. And some, like mine, will give you the opportunity to collect some linkbacks as a bonus.
To get even more favs and links, start a similar exchange scheme at your site, along with instructions something like this, and send a pingback or leave a comment notifying any other participating blogs you’d like a linkback from. As soon as I notice the comment or pingback, I’ll add your blog to the list at the end of this post, so that everyone who comes along afterwards will see the link to your exchange programme too!
Obviously, I’ve done all of the above
And will of course favourite anyone else that favourites me!
Go crazy. And I’ll look forward to helping you knock Slashdot off the top 100 list
And don’t forget, the sooner you start participating the more people will see your comments, and the higher up that list you can get. So what are you waiting for?

An Interesting Counterpoint…
Chris Chen do See Eh! - Chris Chen
To proliferate their underhanded efforts to game ranking systems (Technorati for example) while producing crappy content, the whores of the blogosphere have devised a number of common schemes. The result of these schemes is a tidal wave of garbage content that possibly prevents quality content from being found in Technorati, Google blog Search, or other blog tracking systems.
List of Other Blogs Offering Technorati Favorites Exchanges
Here is a collection of other bloggers who are also offering Technorati Favorites Exchanges. If you’re interested in trading faves, please visit their webpage and participate as well! If you’d like to be listed here too, leave a link to the post describing your exchange scheme in the comments, and I’ll add you as soon as I see the comment — first come first served
Update:This page is becoming so long that it takes forever to load! To speed things up a little, I’ve consolidated the original list of link exchanges with quotes into a three column table of post link. Please take the time to click through to each one, and join the exchange programs of the blogs you like by clicking their technorati link and leaving a comment.
