12th Annual South Florida Tattoo Convention

By Gaz under Bikes & Cars, Travel

Deerfield Beach With all the sun we’ve been having recently, we planned a weekend road trip to Deerfield Beach (just north of Fort Lauderdale) after being handed a flyer for the South Florida Tattoo Convention by one of the guys working in the Service Dept. of our local Orlando Harley Davidson dealership. On Saturday morning we gunned the Harleys down I-95, covering the 200 mile ride in a little over 3 hours.

After checking in to hotel within walking distance of the Expo, and a late lunch at a Portugese restaurant overlooking the marina we headed back to the convention. We were privileged to meet and chat with David Nestler and David Bollt, both of whom were surrounding by their incredible artwork and happily chatting with anyone who passed by. Although I remained level-headed, and didn’t give in to the temptation to be tattooed on the day, I bought the coolest Sheriff Buford T. Justice T-Shirt ever, and Tave found the artist for her next tattoo. In all, we spent around 5 or 6 hours flipping through portfolios and talking to artists and vendors before crashing out for the night.

On Sunday, we had a leisurely ride back, taking the beautiful coastal A1A route to West Palm Beach, and admiring the homes of the rich and famous with sea views from the front and rear. Suitably crispy from too much time in the sun, we returned to the I-95 for the remaining 140 miles where there was at least some air blowing across our sunburn :-)
