FL Coast Day 1: Boca Raton Beach
10:00 pm in Bikes & Cars, Travel by Gaz

We made a surprisingly early start to the day, and had covered the 65 miles to Melbourne Beach by 11am leaving us with the rest of the day to enjoy the A1A along the intracoastal highway. Although the plan was to make it to Miami by the end of the day, I hadn’t counted on having 2 girls along, who between them needed to stop for drinks, or food, or the bathroom every hour ;-)
Even so, the scenery was gorgeous with plenty of bridges to ride over and water on all sides. We eventually made it as far as Boca Raton Beach by 6pm, where Tave and Megan had a fabulous time snorkeling for shells while I scouted for some hotel coupons. The picture above was the sunset over the marina as we headed back to the bikes to find a hotel.
With the help of my trusty GPS, we found a the rather fabulous Boca Raton Plaza Hotel who sold us a lovely twin room for just $39 (+tax). Before retiring for the night after 7 leisurely hours in the saddle, we had dinner in the hotel’s excellent grill & bar. If you visit, watch out for the barmaid… my Jack Daniels was refilled so fast that I had drunk half a dozen of them before I left!!
Taking the scenic route along the A1A, including detours for copious fuel and bathroom stops, we covered a little over 200 miles today, only 40 miles behind schedule so far…
