Jeet Kune Do Concepts in Worcester

At TaeKwonDo on Thursday, I heard that Worcester has just started a JeetKuneDo Concepts club. I went along to see it tonight and it looks as though it will be worth training there for a while. I still prefer the Jeet Kune Do Academy in Coventry, but that is a 100 mile round trip every time I go, not to mention being on Sunday afternoon which clashes with most of the TaeKwonDo events I like to attend.

Apparently the “Concepts” flavour of Jeet Kune Do is the school of Dan Inosanto, to whom Bruce Lee entrusted the development of the style, and in that sense it is purer than the Jun Fan Gung Fu/Wing Chun based teachings of Coventry Jeet Kune Do Academy. The Concepts classes are taught by an instructor who has studied Pijak Silat and Kali Escrima, but structured the lesson I watched almost entirely around western Boxing: so much so that the whole lesson was lead on the left in orthodox style. When I spoke with him at the end he confessed that he has no experience of Wing Chun (which I thought surprising since that was Bruce’s foundation in martial arts), and no love of kicking. Still, I think I get a fair amount of kicking practice at TaeKwonDo. I’m sure he has a lot to teach me, so I’m going to join as soon as practicable.
