Upgraded to the latest release candidate of emacs-wiki.el from TheEmacsWiki:DamienElmes today, and regenerated this whole site. Everything is fine, though I applied the patches from EmacsWiki which this site requires.

I have been writing emacs-wiki-journal.el, a collection of extensions to emacs-wiki.el for maintaining the category indices for this Wiki page. While trying to call the emacs-wiki-read-name function in XEmacs, I noticed that my filtered completion list was being clobbered. Here is the patch: EmacsWiki.

I’ve been tinkering with this for about a month now, but it’s about ready for public consumption now. I have organised the local copy of my site to have these journal entries allocated to categories, and have been hand generating the category indices. These extensions create the header line for a new journal entry along with a category icon and anchor, and then update the relevant category wiki with a new index to point to that anchor. In order for this to work, I have icon images named after their matching category wikis. There are more notes about how to use the extensions in emacs-wiki-journal.el itself.

I wanted to add a “Source” button to the footer navigation for each of the published pages on the site. This code does that, when added to an appropriate place in the wiki page (I’ve put it in the footer for this site).

I’ve only owned this car for 28 weeks, and it has cost me GBP9,500 so far. Deducting the sale price and reimbursements from my (recently expired) warranty from this figure leaves me almost GBP3,000 out of pocket – more than GBP100 per week. It’s a beautiful car, and it drives wonderfully, but I can’t afford to keep it on the road any longer. I knew the devaluation from GBP14,000 to GBP8,000 over 9 months (over GBP150 per week) for a Mondeo I bought a few years back would would take some beating… but this came close.
If I ever feel tempted to import another vehicle, I’ll be sure to make a bonfire from a pile of money instead and cut out the middle man :-(
