iMail in Panther

12:00 am in Technology by Gaz

I stumbled across Apple’s Panther preview today, and was delighted to see that they appear to have put decent threading into the next version of iMail. The only MUA’s I’ve found that do message threading properly are Emacs Gnus and Mutt: but I’m running OS X dammit! I want a spiffy integrated graphical mail client, and until now I either had to forego threading with Jaguar iMail, or else use Mozilla Mail (which does message threading or date sorting; what’s that about?). Anyway, I’m far more excited about Panther than the G5 processors everyone else is arguing about at the moment :-)

New Digital Camera with iPhoto

12:00 am in Technology by Gaz

Today I bought a Canon A40 digital camera from the new Apple Store in Birmingham. I haven’t used one before, but after a bit of fiddling I managed to take a couple of photos. I’m delighted to say that when I plugged it into the USB port on my iBook, iPhoto launched and I downloaded the pictures into the machine with the click of a button. It turns out that the USB download is powered by the camera’s batteries though, so next on the shopping list is a USB powered card reader for my iBook.

M4 Module API Hacking

12:00 am in Programming by Gaz

I had forgotten how slipshod the module api was until I really started to pull it apart this week. There is plenty here to keep me busy for a few weeks more. I need to rationalise everything in m4module.h to give a clean api that won’t need to change incompatibly with the next release. Once I’ve done that I’ll make an alpha release while I integrate Paolo Bonzini’s build of my snprintfv project, which might entail some work with libltdl to cope with two clients with different loaders in one codebase…

English Championships

12:00 am in Martial Arts by Gaz

Today was the English Tae Kwon Do Championships, with a pretty low attendance thanks to it also being Fathers Day. I didn’t think my performance of GwangGae was as good as the Midlands, but the judges seemed to like it and gave me 9.0 average — so I missed bronze by 0.1 :-) Mr. Harrison tells me that GwangGae is not a good competition pattern though, so I’ll have to get ChoongJang together for the National Points in September. Lost very convincingly in the first round in sparring to Tristram Smith again. Bah.

Bike Parts

12:00 am in Bikes & Cars by Gaz

Well, well, well. Wonders will never cease. In the mail today I found a replacement footpeg from Three Cross! A mere 27 weeks from order to delivery. What a joke! Three Cross, your customer service sucks. I’ve probably said it before, but even though the bike itself is a dream come true, I will never buy anything else that relies on Three Cross for parts.

On the bright side I now have a complete bike again, having moved the pillion peg back to the right place and fitted the rider footpeg. Next on my shopping list is a carbon fender to replace the ratted one I scuffed last year. And maybe some race cans for next Summer…
